![]() The Holistic Mission Issue Group endorsed his paper not only as the biblical foundation for our group but for Christian mission as a whole. This paper represents his mature thinking on the subject. Since then through books, articles, preaching and lecturing he has been a stalwart advocate of holistic mission. He was one of the key figures at the Lausanne Congress in 1974 in persuading the congress to recognize social action as a crucial element in the mission of the church. Padilla has had a long history of commitment to holistic mission and involvement in the Lausanne Movement. This Lausanne Occasional Paper begins with a general introduction to holistic mission by René Padilla, which was written as a common foundation for the work of the Holistic Mission Issue Group at the Lausanne Forum held at Pattaya, Thailand in the autumn of 2004.
